Stamping ground

The ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ project has its merit on paper. A musical based on a hit record that escapes from the routines of this type of film. Here the band does not appear (the protagonist, in fact, is the singer of another group, Bob Geldof), a story is not molded to use, nor are the songs interpreted as in traditional musicals. Alan Parker, at that time one of the promises of British cinema, tried to transfer to the screen the idea of conceptual work with which the album was conceived. In ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ historical times are mixed without following the typical narrative conventions, animation scenes are introduced and the symbolic, metaphorical and evocative power of the images is enhanced. Yes, a priori, very interesting. But the result is disappointing. Like a video clip stretched to an hour and a half of footage, ‘Pink Floyd- The Wa…

(«In the Flesh?»)

Pink floyd – the wall

The British group Pink Floyd, addicted to psychedelia, infected half the world with their philosophical lyrics, their chilling staging, but above all, with musical compositions that could perfectly match the curve of the encephalogram of an LSD addict.
Neither irate parents busting record players nor tangled tapes in the heads of cassette players were a problem for this band to have sold more than 300,000,000 albums around the world (with zeros, to make it look good), not to mention everything that could have been copied and shared throughout four decades. Undoubtedly, it was an unstoppable psychedelic epidemic and its sequels are still preserved today, despite the fact that after the album ‘The Wall’ Pink Floyd took a drastic turn in its musical paradigm, coinciding with the controversial departure of leader Roger Waters in 1985, the same one who announced the group’s extinction, although Gilmour, Mason and Wright continued until the first decade of this millennium.

Pink Floyd – The Wall is a British film released on May 23, 1982 directed by British director Alan Parker and based on the Pink Floyd album The Wall (1979). The screenplay was written by Pink Floyd vocalist and bassist Roger Waters. Highly metaphorical and rich in symbolism and sound, the film contains little dialogue and is driven primarily by Pink Floyd songs.
The film includes 15 minutes of elaborate animated sequences created by illustrator Gerald Scarfe and Roger Waters, part of which depict a nightmare based on German bombing raids on England during World War II.[1] The film is renowned for its disturbing surrealism, animated sequences, sexual situations, violence and gore. Despite its turbulent production and the creators’ dissatisfaction with the final result, The Wall has become a cult film.
Pink (Bob Geldof), the lead singer of a musical group, has been suffering from a series of traumas since childhood. He is initially seen in a hotel room, totally expressionless, watching television while Vera Lynn’s «The Little Boy that Santa Claus Forgot» plays. It is later revealed that Pink’s father, a British soldier, died in combat at the Battle of Anzio during World War II, in the middle of the protagonist’s childhood.
