You are not sure of your case, or the case is so bad that you want to take yourself, possibly with a neighborhood committee, to court. Then you can take out a civil action against an animal abuser. A law store gives inexpensive advice. Consult www.dewetswinkel.be
File a complaint with as many people as possible. One complaint is often not responded to by the appropriate authorities. This will happen more quickly if several complaints are filed within a short period of time. If the competent authority does not act, you can form an action committee.

Most people love their pets and take good care of them. But unfortunately, sometimes things go wrong too. Sometimes people don’t take good enough care of their animal, or even take it badly. With animal suffering as a result: the animal is stressed, gets sick or even dies… There are also people who mistreat their animals. They kick or hit their animal, causing it to get hurt. Animal welfare is compromised.
If you want to know what animal abuse is, you must first know what animal welfare is. If there is animal welfare, then an animal feels good physically and mentally. An animal feels best when it can behave in a natural way and when it has no constant stress, pain or fear. In that case you speak of adequate animal welfare. If an animal is less well off, then its welfare is reduced.
Each animal species has its own natural behavior. Chickens like to scratch, cows need to be able to ruminate, pigs need space and a pleasant group, dogs like to walk and sniff around, parrots and rabbits like company. So you have to take that into account if you have such an animal.
Behind many front doors in the Netherlands lies animal and human suffering. Help us to do something about it, report animal suffering! Your signal can be the beginning of a solution. Do you witness animal abuse? Do you think animals are neglected? Then call the national hotline 144. Are not only animals, but also their owners having a hard time? Then also contact the local municipality or district police.
Do you, as a (social) worker, encounter animal abuse or neglect during your work? And is the situation not acute and would you like advice or consultation? Then we would like to refer you to our Helpdesk Helpers.
Preferably report animal abuse at hotline 144. They ask for personal information. This is important for the registration of the reports, the proper handling of the case and feedback to the reporter. This information will of course be treated confidentially. Are there reasons why you absolutely do not want to be connected to a report, but you do see the necessity of making a report? Then you can contact Report Crime Anonymously, 0800-7000 or visit the website.
The Animal Protection Society has created a signal card for social care and service providers. The organization sees an important role for social care and service providers because they get behind the front door of people in need, where often animals can also be in need.
Helpdesk HelpersWith the distribution of the signals card, the Animal Protection Society wants to draw the attention of the social workers to learn to look more broadly and thus to be able to more actively identify and act precisely where animal welfare is compromised. In this way they hope not only to intervene more quickly, but also to prevent suffering, because prevention is better than cure. For advice and consultation, caregivers can reach the Animal Protection Service via the Helpdesk for Caregivers.Recognize the signsSigns of diminished care can include:Acute situation or criminal act?In an acute situation or to report a criminal act such as abuse or severe neglect, you can contact the national hotline 144.
